I wanted to do something floral and bright for my next round of prints, so I got orchids with an orange ground stuck in my head and I couldn’t wait to paint! Then I changed my mind half way through…..
It has to be pink! So I tried again. Still not feeling it. Just thought I’d post them. Sometimes the best work is spontaneous and comes out exactly how you want it the first time, but sometimes it’s trial and error. Going to try again and see what I come up with!

I love all your illustrations, and just came across your blog via Creature Comforts. Your baby is adorable, and I’m wondering if you’ve been to the Orchid Show at the Bronx Botanical Garden? I was looking up some photos people took on their blog, and it looks like it might be a great source of inspiration to you! I’m meaning to go in the next week or so!
These are sooo lovely! I love the orange and the pink backgrounds!
They look beautiful Caitlin! I think that the orange painting would be perfect for thank you note cards. The pink background is lovely! You can definitely sell that one as an original painting- I can see it in a girl’s bedroom with a nice white frame. Don’t give up, you are so talented! Enjoy the process.
Whatever the color, they make me think …. SPRING ….. so they are perfect !
I think it is the mustardy color bits on the orchids that is keeping it from being bright
rather than the backgrounds, both of which I like. Perhaps clear yellow bits might
add the brightness you want.
Thanks for including us! Love seeing the process. Would LOVE to see you in the act of painting. your’e amazing.
they are beautiful! how about a 3rd with a cobalt blue ground…. it could be a series of 3. (-:
I love your work
Tara
I really like the orange, actually! What about light blue?
