Every once in a while when I’ve been working on nothing but really tight and detailed things, I pick up some leaves or flowers from the corner and just paint for an hour or two. It is so nice to paint LARGE without really thinking!
I blinked and it’s fall. Never in my life has six months gone by so fast as these first six months of James’s life! I remember when Alex was an infant and the days seemed so long. Now life just flies by. By this time with Alex, I was already running a tight ship, scheduling her (imagine, a baby!) and becoming upset when she didn’t stick to it (again, A BABY!). Oh my, have things changed this time around. James has had some health issues, and has to eat and sleep more frequently than the average babe, in other words, see ya later schedule! It has been a blessing to just let things ‘be’ and enjoy both my kids this time around. But time is going so fast, at the end of the day I think, what did I even do today? Then six months goes by and I have the same feeling!
Between working and the babies, one thing that loses priority is time with friends. In the past couple of weeks I’ve started to go out, spend time with friends, and it has been GLO-RI-OUS. I’ve had dinner with colleagues, margaritas with new friends, and a New England-y fall weekend with college roommates. So my resolution this fall is to always make time to have a drink or a call with a friend, no matter how busy life gets. I forgot how much I needed it!
I’m so, so, so excited to be a part of the new domino!! Back in the day when I read the original, I never thought that my illustrations would be in it one day…what a dream!
Omar is a GORGEOUS new restaurant in the West Village designed by BHDM. My loveliest and most talented friend Dan Mazzarini (of BHDM fame) sent me the inspiration and overview of the restaurant and asked that I come up with some artwork ideas. So after some sketching, here’s what I did!
Then Dan instagrammed (@danmazzarini) some photos from the framers (and texted them to me on the day I had James…he was all ‘look at your paintings at the framers!’ and I was all ‘look at this baby!’)
I think it came together quite nicely!! Read more about it here.
I loved making my trays and I am dreaming up what I am going to do next. For some reason ultramarine BLUE is stuck in my head. I keep doing these patterns in blue, thinking about the possibilities. Maybe it’s the heat wave we’re having that is making me want to do something summery and water-y blue. Feels perfect right now…couldn’t you see bud vases, or fabric or notes in all of this blue??!
New prints are here in the shop! I wanted to do something with coral-y orange, black, and a yellowy-green. I also wanted to use Greek pottery somehow, which is kind of where everything started. Another thing I was looking at was all that 80′s chintz with the black ground color. So…this is how it all came together!
On a side note, I’ve been getting lots of emails about purchasing past prints (I’m so sorry that with everything that’s been going on lately, it’s difficult for me to answer individually…!) Unfortunately, all the prints from the past were limited editions and have sold out, so will not be restocked. Going forward, I plan on doing larger editions so they don’t sell out as quickly!!
I’m on Instagram and obviously, I am obsessed with it like the rest of the world. So follow me! It will be a little of the everyday, a little inspiration, a little of everything.
